Situated at the prominent intersection of Changrong Road and Xiaodong Road within the East District campus of National Cheng Kung University, the project occupies a strategic corner of the Tainan urban fabric.

Recognizing the site’s potential as an urban campus landmark, we utilized a streamlined formal language and curved, perforated metal panels to create a landmark building. We sought to convey the imagery of water and the ocean, creating a "soft" architectural expression that appears to move within its surroundings.

We concentrated core academic and research functions on the second through fifth floors. A triple-height atrium fosters interaction between floors while drawing in natural light and greenery. The lower levels house hydraulic testing facilities, where we incorporated large-scale openings and voids to ensure a well-ventilated, daylight-filled environment for experimentation.

Our landscape strategy redefines the interface between the city and the campus. By utilizing a recycled-water pond on the north side, we created a generous pedestrian plaza that enhances the urban environment while maintaining campus security. To the south, we integrated a semi-outdoor "waterfall" staircase that stitches the campus topography into the building’s interior.

Although modest in scale, the project occupies a pivotal location. We sought to design with "lightness" to balance the immense architectural responsibility. After four years of effort and overcoming numerous challenges, it is finally complete. We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported us. It is bittersweet to see this realized without the mentor who first championed it; this structure now stands as a vessel for memory—a lasting contribution to Tainan and our alma mater.
