Design Description for the LM Multi-story Parking Garage (Turnkey Project), Shanhua District, Tainan City
This is a turnkey project.
Beyond basic parking requirements, the client aimed to achieve the following three objectives:
1. Verticalize the original surface parking lot of the LM Sunshine Electric City to alleviate parking demand in the neighboring community.
2. Add a multi-purpose space on the first floor to increase land utility, strengthen community functions, and promote the development of the surrounding area.
3. Introduce smart parking management and eco-friendly designs in response to future trends to enhance usage efficiency and service quality.
Our design features two primary concepts:
1. Context and Environment: Respecting community context, emphasizing eco-friendliness and revitalization.
Beyond parking convenience, what environmental changes and value can a multi-story parking garage bring to a residential community? This was the fundamental question we constantly revisited during the design process.
By proactively mitigating noise, light pollution, and air pollution, and ensuring clear separation of pedestrian and vehicular traffic while avoiding "road-clash" orientations, it becomes a community’s "new, good neighbor."
Through understated volumes and facades that mend and fill the fragmented urban streetscape, it becomes a "new, good building" that integrates into the community.
By preserving and planting additional trees, we created a green-wrapped environment that reduces carbon and absorbs sound. The resulting circular walkway, with a front and back yard, connects the community fabric and serves as a "new, good venue" for residents’ exercise and leisure.
2. Human-centricity and Safety: Prioritizing people through safe, convenient, and thoughtful design.
A multi-story parking garage does not serve vehicles; it serves the "people" who drive or ride them.
What makes a good multi-story parking garage? This was the second question we constantly asked during design. This was the second question we constantly asked during design.
First, we designed distinct, independent, and wide entrances and exits, ensuring drivers can drive straight and smoothly without unnecessary spiraling or circling.
The facility features oversized parking spaces throughout to avoid pillar interference. The circulation is simple with wide lanes and clear signage; our human-centric layout ensures users won't get lost or struggle to find their cars.
We provided sufficient buffer zones for ramps and planned safe pedestrian paths to achieve a complete separation of people and vehicles.
Looking outward, every path is bright and filled with greenery, providing users with a pervasive sense of comfort and well-being.
Accessible and maternity/child parking spaces are located right next to the elevators; electric vehicle stalls are placed outdoors to ensure safer charging.
Without a doubt, this is a community’s "new, good parking garage."
